Migration Safari

The Mara River crossing

7 days

Migration Safari Mara

From July to October, the Great Migration crosses the Mara River in the north of the Serengeti on its way to Kenya.

Key points of the trip

THE GREAT MIGRATION IN MARA

From July to October, the great migratory herds of almost 1.7 million wildebeest and over 600,000 zebra are in the Mara region, ready to cross the river to the fresh green pastures of the north. This is a unique event and well worth seeing.

4 MUST-SEES

This itinerary offers a complete safari during which you will visit 3 national parks: Manyara and its salt lake, Tarangire and its elephants and the mythical Serengeti. The Ngorongoro Crater is also on the programme to complete a perfect safari in Northern Tanzania.

COMFORT FOR ALL

The plains of the Serengeti welcome you in superb canvas tents. All the amenities of a hotel, with the added spirit of nature, and even spacious family tents! Enjoy an aperitif around the campfire as you watch the sun set, and transition into a night will be filled with the sounds of wild animals.

FLIGHT BACK TO ARUSHA

Travelling by car can be lengthy in Tanzania due to the state of the roads, which limits speed. To avoid crossing the Serengeti to reach Arusha by road, we offer you the possibility of taking a small plane (twelve-seater caravan) from the airfield inside the Serengeti to Arusha. An amazing and relaxing view.

  3. DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER

Early morning departure for the Ngorongoro Crater and 4x4 safari in the crater. Picnic lunch in the crater.

The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is not really a crater, but a caldera, i.e. the explosion of the cone of a volcano. It contains fresh and salt water, savannah and forest, and is home to around 100 animals per km².

  6. DAY 6: MIGRATION SAFARI - MARA

Every year, this migratory event involves three species of animals moving in huge herds: more than 1.7 million wildebeest, 600,000 zebra and 400,000 gazelle, all of which follow a migration cycle in search of green pastures all year round. The period when they cross the river is from July to October. They gather in huge groups before crossing the river, making it more difficult for predators.

Third night in a charming full-board tented camp inside the park in the northern region.

  7. DAY 7: ARUSHA OR ZANZIBAR

Last morning of safari in the Mara region before an internal flight from Kogatende aerodrome to Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport.
